Evans, GA, is home to many families with children of all ages, and there are many places in the area that offer family-friendly activities. Whether your children are young, or work, school, extracurricular activities, and more are filling the calendar and everyone is often running in different directions, we’re certain you can find something to do in Evans.
First, let’s spend time outside. Start at the Columbia County Amphitheater, adjacent to the Columbia County Library. Children and adults will find there is plenty to do in the park surrounding the amphitheater. There are multiple play structures with activities for children of all ages. If it’s a warm day, what children don’t like splash pads? There is a free splash pad available to cool off on a hot day. After your children splash around, there is a nearby pond a few yards away. Often, there are hungry turtles waiting to be fed or simply enjoying the sunshine. There is also a walking trail surrounding the amphitheater, park and pond. If you have stroller-aged children, this is a great option to fit in some exercise before letting your children burn some energy of their own at the playground. To many locals, this park is locally known as the “library park” due to its location. Before you leave, you can visit the library to cool off (or warm up!) and read books together as a family.
Not far from the amphitheater, you’ll find Evans Towne Center Park. This larger park offers less shade than the library park, but it may prove more engaging for older children. It offers rope climbing and a multi-level playground, as well as an area with swings. If you need to cool down, there is another splash pad to enjoy. You will find a nice dog park here as well. If you happen to bring your dog along for your adventure, you can get them out and let them get a little exercise. Even if you don’t own a dog, it’s usually pretty entertaining to watch dogs play! Throughout the park, there are covered picnic areas to share a meal with friends and paved sidewalks for cycling and rollerskating. You’ll quickly notice that this park hosts many of the CSRA’s most popular annual events, including Banjo-BBQ and Thunder Over Evans. Christmas decorations also make it a pretty place to visit during the holiday season.
Riverside Park is, well, by the river. Many people come here to enjoy the water in kayaks and canoes. It offers an access point for you to launch small water vessels, and it also features a beautiful brick bridge over the river with some amazing views of the Savannah River. There are also picnic tables here.
Let’s head inside and get crafty. Artsy Me Ceramics and Art Studio allows both kids and adults to express their creative side by painting pottery. The atmosphere is fun and light-hearted and it really is about having a good time. There are loads of options to pick from and then you sit down and paint it up as you wish. This is a fun and reasonably-priced indoor activity to beat the Georgia heat. You will have to come by another day to pick up your family’s pieces after they have been fired in the kiln.
AR Workshop Evans offers a variety of crafting workshops led by instructors. Most of the workshops require you to sign up in advance, so be sure to check their website and pick something that interests you. You can also purchase DIY crafting kits or schedule a private session for your family. While this option isn’t ideal for younger kids, it would be perfect for those that have tweens or teens.
Evans is also home to a variety of other local businesses, including dining, shopping and a movie theater.
